On February 18, 2025, our esteemed State President Scot X. Esdaile proudly installed our new slate of officers, each committed to advancing the mission, values, and urgent work of the NAACP. This installation marked a renewed chapter of leadership grounded in service, accountability, and community empowerment, setting the tone for the impactful work ahead. 

Each officer stepped into their role with a shared commitment to “The Fierce Urgency of Now,” carrying forward the charge to address the needs of our community with focus, courage, and action. The ceremony honored our legacy while embracing the momentum required to meet today’s challenges head‑on.

With our newly installed leadership team, we remain dedicated to strengthening advocacy, expanding resources, and uplifting every voice in New Britain.

Our officers - President Jan Edwards, Vice-President Dr. Violet Jimenez-Sims, Secretary Rhona Cohen-O'Brien, and Youth & College Chapter Advisor Spencer Williams - attended the 2025 National Convention in Charlotte, NC, where the message was “The Fierce Urgency of Now.” We returned fired up and ready to go, committed to pushing forward the work our community needs today, and not tomorrow.

The convention reminded us that the moment for action is immediate, and we’re stepping into this next chapter with purpose, unity, and momentum.

2025 marked a powerful milestone for our branch as we hosted our first Freedom Fund Dinner since 2019. After years of pause, uncertainty, and community challenges, we came together with renewed purpose under the theme “The Fierce Urgency of Now.”

It was more than a dinner; it was a call to action.

Our keynote speaker, Sharece Sellem‑Hannah, M.S., delivered a message that resonated deeply with everyone in the room. As a visionary playwright, public health advocate, and community voice, her words reminded us that justice, equity, and progress cannot wait. Her presence set the tone for an evening rooted in truth, empowerment, and collective responsibility.

The night was filled with connection, reflection, and commitment. We honored our legacy, celebrated our resilience, and recommitted ourselves to the urgent work ahead, work driven by what we hear from our community and fueled by our mission to serve.

As we continue moving forward, the 2025 dinner stands as a reminder that the time for action is always now.
